Since launching group running on the timetable it has proven to be a successful and welcome addition.
Members have said things like ‘it’s nice to get outside’ or ‘I like the fresh air’.
Running outdoors (green exercise) is an awesome way to enjoy the open spaces we are blessed with here in Milton Keynes – even if you’ve never run before or have misgivings about your ability to run (see couch to five K below).
The fact that you can program getting outside as part of your fitness goals is something I cannot recommend enough.
All those social media posts about the benefits/lack of natural vitamin D are all true.
What Happens at a Group Run?
We meet at the car park at Christ The Sower Primary School in Grange Farm, MK8 0PZ at 7:30PM, take account of everyone and then go for a run.
Standing about is not an option as we try to get moving quickly.
We immediately go into a brisk walk for a warm up adding some arm swings, lunges and other dynamic movements to get you ready for your run.
Everyone’s friendly and welcoming and likes to have a bit of a chat at the start before the serious business of running gets going.
Actually we also chat during our run which makes it a bit of a social event whilst improving your fitness.
There are no timings although you are welcome to time yourself or bring a tracker.
Couch 2 5K
If you’ve never run before of think you’ll struggle then this is the group for you.
The couch to 5K group run will get you running twice a week from zero to 5k by using the tried and tested methods such as walk-run-walk and fartlek (fast and slow running).
More experienced runners continue to run in small groups and loop back to the main group when others are walking to enable all ability levels to take part.
You’ll use a tried and tested quite redway route so you get familiar with the course and improve your technique and timings.
What Are The Benefits of Outdoor Group Running?
Some of the more well known benefits of exercising out doors are that you’ll tend to show improvement in mental well-being compared with exercising indoors.*
Green exercise is also associated with greater feelings of revitalisation, increased energy and decreases in tension, confusion, anger and depression.
There is certainly something about outdoor running with a friendly group that makes exercise just more fun.

I’ve Never Been Running
Many of our members had never been running or had not been running in a long time before joining.
We’ve tailored outdoor run sessions to include staples like the well known couch to 5K.
So long as you have a good pair of running shoes, wear layers (high viz if you can) then you are good to go.
Our seasoned runners are here to help with any questions you may have and are welcoming to new runners.
Group run leaders are there to ensure your safety and that everyone gets to run at their own pace even if that means upping/decreasing the tempo.
