I’ve lived and worked in Milton Keynes all my life.
In fact I was born when Milton Keynes Hospital didn’t even have a maternity unit.
So my mother like so many other expectant ladies at the time was rushed to the next nearest one in Northampton.
It always made me chuckle when mates in the same year as me at school where for the lost part born in Northampton and not Milton Keynes.
Now things are different and that’s not surprising given the growth of Milton Keynes.
I once read that during the 2008 financial crisis Milton Keynes was one of a handful of places in the UK that actually continued to grow.
But today’s posts isn’t about growth rates or financial economics (both subjects are close to my heart).
It’s about you.
I used to think that my ‘avatar’ for my fitness brand Fitter Stronger You was working mums who can’t commit on or don’t want to go to the gym but still need someone to motivate them to work out and provide meals plans and recipes.
For the most part that is still true because I still get enquiries from ladies who fit this mould.
But when I look at the women (and men but it’s mostly women) who have joined Fitter Stronger You on the 12 week plan they’ve all got a couple of things in common.
1. They are entrepreneurial in nature
Now this doesn’t mean that they run their own start ups (although some do).
It means that they’re hard working, professional decision makers who understand the value of fitness and being fit in order to be hardworking.
Which means they are busy people.
Very busy and they usually have children.
They tend to view health and fitness like a positive feedback loop in that increased levels of fitness feeds into increased chances of success in other areas of life like work and family.
I know this because they tell me.
2. They have strong family values
Interestingly I recently discovered something that made me very happy.
All, not some but all of my current online clients have strong family values and ethics.
For example they all have children, some young.
Some not quite so young.
But more than that they place a huge amount of value on raising their children in a way that instils the confidence and self esteem needed to make a success of themselves in a world where young people are suffering from a huge self esteem crisis.
It’s not so much about the trips to Disneyland but more about giving their children the opportunities to experience things that create a sense of self worth by spending time with them 1 on 1.
Working out at home is the ideal solution because they’re not tied to commuting to a gym spending 2.5 hours away from home and family life.
It also shows their children the importance of a healthy lifestyle when mummy or daddy is doing squats in the living room.
3. They have a strong connection to Milton Keynes
All of my current online clients are like me, from Milton Keynes.
After geeking out to find out how people discover my brand and how I can help them lose weight, get fit and stay fit in their 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s etc there are two main channels by which they discover me.
- They already know me personally
- They discovered my website from a local google search
This is interesting to me because like many of my clients I too am building a brand.
In fact writing this very article is a way for me to really niche down and concentrate my own marketing efforts to a locally based – Milton Keynes – content strategy.
Milton Keynes continues to grow and more and more families are moving in.
There will be a huge need for a home based exercise and nutrition solution for mums and dads if they want to take full advantage of being at home and leading a healthy lifestyle.
There are many more similarities between the me and the people who trust me with motivating them for all things health and fitness.
Milton Keynes is a very enterprising place to live and work and they say you attract who you are.
